The GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB is an improved version of the 7800 GTX released in November 2005.
This GPU is of a newer revision with improvements focussed on speed.
This resuled on important speed improvements on both core (550Mhz from 430Mhz) and memory (850Mhz from 600Mhz).
The new cooler (two slots) is re-used from the Quadro FX 4500.
Engineering samples sent to reviewers often had GPUs labelled "GF-7800-U-A2". With "U" generally being interpreted as "Ultra".
Production models were later shipped with "GF-7800-GTX-512-A2" markings instead.
